NYSPHA Day at the Capitol: Tobacco 21

Registration

  • For non-members attending NYSPHA's 2017 Day at the Capitol who will be purchasing lunch on their own.
  • For non-members attending NYSPHA's 2017 Day at the Capitol who will be purchasing an optional meal ticket
  • For active public health students who are not-yet NYSPHA members (lunch will be included)

No legislative experience required. If you have a prohibition on lobbying for your job you can either help educate legislators or you can take the day off if you want to lobby (asking lawmaker to support the bill).

Why: A day to come to Albany with other NYSPHA members to educate and lobby for evidence-based health policy. This year we are collaborating with the American Heart and Lung Associations, and the American Cancer Society to help raise the minimum legal age for purchasing tobacco products (including electronic cigarettes) to 21.  Already 60% of the state’s population is covered by local Tobacco 21 laws.  NYS can become the third state in the country to enact this important law which has been shown to significantly reduce youth smoking.
